WTO releases book on international tariff talks

The second edition of Tariff Negotiations and Renegotiations under the GATT and WTO follows the original published in 2001.    The World Trade Organization on Tuesday released its second edition of Tariff Negotiations and Renegotiations under the GATT and WTO, which reviews how procedures and practices regarding tariff negotiations have evolved since the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) was established in 1947, the WTO announced.
   The first edition of the book was published in 2001.
   The second edition reviews progress in all areas of tariff negotiations since the establishment of GATT. International goods trade has increased “dramatically” since then, largely because of efforts by the world’s leading traders to multilaterally reduce and remove tariffs, the WTO said.
   Developments highlighted in the edition include successful conclusion of talks to expand duty-free coverage of the WTO Information Technology Agreement; agricultural tariff negotiations and nonagricultural market access under the Doha Development Agenda; and tariff renegotiations associated with successive expansions of the EU, the WTO said.
