The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) board of directors voted Thursday to offer Lisa Wieland the position of chief executive officer and executive director for a five-year term.
Contract negotiations will occur at a later date, the announcement said.
Weiland has served as the port director since 2015. She is credited with leading “maritime business areas toward success with increased port revenues, advancement of critical infrastructure projects such as the Boston Harbor dredging project and set all-time records for container volume at Conley Container Terminal.”
She is one of three women currently serving on the U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime System National Advisory Committee.
The search firm Isaacson, Miller whittled 100 applicants down to 10 semifinalists, who were interviewed by a board committee. The committee advanced two finalists at a June 20 meeting.
Board Chairman Lew Evangelidis said of Wieland, “Throughout her tenure at Massport, she has shown tremendous leadership, especially in her role as port director. The board is confident her diverse career experience, expertise and acumen make her the most qualified and right person for the job.”
Wieland leads the financial management, business planning, strategic initiatives, special projects and the day-to-day management of 125 employees and an annual budget of approximately $124 million, including commercial real estate. Previously, she was Massport’s chief administrative officer for maritime from 2013 to 2015.
She has been at Massport since 2006. Other senior roles have included director of corporate planning and analysis and director of human resource strategy and employment.
The Greater Boston chamber of Commerce in January presented Wieland a Pinnacle Award for achievement in the workplace, demonstrated leadership that has made a difference and a commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the region.
