The House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee will hold a hearing on enforcement in the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) at 10 a.m. ET May 22, subcommittee Chairman Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., announced Wednesday.
It is unclear who will testify as the hearing notice doesn’t identify any witnesses.
House Democrats are seeking beefed-up labor, environment, enforcement and pharmaceutical provisions in USMCA, though the new pact includes stronger provisions in these areas than NAFTA.
Last week, Blumenauer said Democrats and the Trump administration haven’t gotten into specifics of how the agreement might be tweaked to assuage Democrats’ concerns. He noted that the next three months is the “sweet spot” to determine whether Congress and the Trump administration can build consensus on changes to the agreement.
