The U.S. has reached an agreement with Canada and Mexico to lift tariffs on steel and aluminum from those countries, eliminating a major hurdle for congressional consideration of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, several major news outlets reported Friday afternoon.
The agreement also doesn’t involve quotas, and the tariffs will be gone in 48 hours, the outlets reported.
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, in late April wrote an op-ed published in The Wall Street Journal in which he wrote that “USMCA is dead” if the tariffs weren’t lifted.
