German Parcel Packet-Logistik GmbH has acquired express carrier Der
Kurier from Wolfgang Junge. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, although
the transaction is back-dated to Jan. 1.
Der Kurier will remain a separate company.
German Parcel, the fourth-largest German parcel carrier, was purchased
in January by UK Post Office. Der Kurier is one of Germany’s largest
express couriers. The two companies have cooperated domestically for
several years.
With the acquisition, German Parcel will be able to offer overnight and
same-day deliveries within Germany and internationally and compete with
Deutsche Post AG, which has been on an acquisition spree.
