The Port of Boston recently received two new rubber-tired gantry cranes to shuttle boxes around Conley Terminal.
The two RTGs join a fleet of 12 already in service at the terminal. The Massachusetts Port Authority plans to receive two more RTGs this fall, which will bring its total RTG fleet to 16 by early 2020.
Massport said the RTG purchases are part of an $850 million investment in the Port of Boston’s Conley Terminal. “Revitalizing the working Port of Boston means strategically purchasing equipment and modernizing the terminal to support that growth,” said Lisa Wieland, Massport’s port director, in a statement.
The Port of Boston’s container volumes have increased during the past four years, with more than 298,000 TEUs handled in 2018.
