TRAILER BRIDGE REPORTS SECOND-QUARTER LOSS

Trailer Bridge, the Jacksonville-based trucking/marine freight carrier,
reported a second-quarter loss of $399,377, compared to a $149,098 net income for the same period last year.
The company’s revenue rose 23.2 percent to $22.69 million for the
quarter ending June 30.
The company said the loss was due to costs related to the disruption of
service to San Juan, Puerto Rico, after a ramp structure was damaged during Hurricane Georges.
Vessel capacity utilization to Puerto Rico was 90.6 percent to Puerto
Rico and 30.6 percent from Puerto Rico, up significantly from the
year-earlier period.
Utilization of the company’s Atlantic Highway East Coast coastwise
service rose 36.5 percent southbound and 122.5 percent northbound. However total utilization southbound and northbound was only 19.2 percent and 10.3 percent, respectively.
Trailer Bridge’s operating ratio for the second quarter was 99.4
percent, compared to 97.8 percent for the year-earlier period.
The company is owned and founded by containerization pioneer Malcom McLean.
