TCA pledges to help combat human trafficking

On January 28, TCA staffers attended the U.S. Department of Transportation’s “100 Pledges in 100 Days” event which focused on combating human trafficking in the transportation sector. Hundreds of attendees filled the DOT’s West Building Atrium in Washington, D.C. to support the cause.

The event featured remarks by Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, Truckers Against Trafficking Executive Director Kendis Paris; Representative Henry Cuellar (D-TX); First Lady of Georgia Marty Kemp; Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ); and Attorney General Sean Reyes of Utah.

“Human trafficking generates more than $150 billion in illegal profit every year,” explained Representative Henry Cuellar (D-TX). Rep. Cuellar shared daunting insights as his district is home to the third largest port of entry in the United States.

TCA signed the Department’s Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking (TLAHT) pledge which outlined numerous ways in which partners in the transportation sector can unite efforts and help to eliminate human trafficking.

“The Truckload Carriers Association is committed to empowering our stakeholders to work jointly to put an end to human trafficking,” said TCA President John Lyboldt. “It’s important that we, as an industry, utilize programs such as Truckers Against Trafficking.”
