SEA-LAND AND MAERSK REVISE TP-2 TRANSPACIFIC SERVICE

   Maersk Line and Sea-Land Service have revised the itinerary of their
transpacific "TP-2" service and extended its rotation to the U.S. East
Coast.
   In Asia, the weekly service now calls at Yantian, South China, instead
of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The vessels of the Maersk/Sea-Land service have
stopped calling at the Japanese ports of Kobe and Yokohama eastbound, but
they maintain westbound calls at Yokohama and Nagoya.
   The carriers are extending the West Coast service to the U.S. East
Coast, by adding four ships to the former six-ship operation. The service
now calls at the ports of Charleston, Norfolk and New York in the U.S.,
Freeport in the Bahamas, and Manzanillo in Panama.
  The weekly capacity of the service will remain the same, said Thomas
Eskesen, director of strategy, at Maersk.
