Chicago-based Redwood Logistics has announced it acquired Skipjack Supply Chain, a multi-carrier software-as-a-service (SaaS) parcel platform, and Proactive Global Logistics (PGL), a non-asset-based parcel service provider, to create an integrated solution named Redwood Parcel.
“Redwood customers can now enjoy a fully integrated parcel solution, offering rating, labeling, visibility, analytics, reporting and savings through our enhanced parcel expertise,” said Mark Yeager, CEO of Redwood Logistics, in the release. “E-commerce continues to emerge as a vital growth channel for many of our customers, and we are pleased to expand our freight management and platform capabilities to offer superior parcel expertise that will drive efficiency in their supply chain planning and operations.”
Skipjack, based in Austin, Texas, is an Oracle transportation and warehouse management solutions provider that specializes in enterprise-grade barcode label printing systems, parcel manifesting and cloud parcel rating applications. The company’s Cipher label management solution has been an Oracle Validated Integration since 2010, assisting clients in multiple industries such as CPG, life sciences, automotive, industrial manufacturing, food and beverage, utilities and aerospace.
PGL is a logistics service provider for all modes of transportation and specializes in parcel transportation and contract agreements. The company’s parcel contract software rates and analyzes multiple data points and agreement elements to ensure customers are receiving the best rates with optimal customer service.
The two companies’ technology capabilities combined with Redwood’s connectivity foundation will enable Redwood Parcel to optimize parcel planning through contract strategy, automated pricing, real-time visibility, analytics reporting and spend auditing.
Redwood Parcel, powered by RedwoodConnect, will optimize customers’ parcel operations through the company’s recently launched logistics and delivery model, Logistics Platform as a Service (LPaaS).
Launched during the FreightWaves LIVE @HOME event in May, LPaaS enables shippers to create a technology platform that services the logistics needs unique to their business.
At the event, Yeager explained that many shippers are looking for a solution that is easily adaptable to unforeseen needs and is able to scale with their growing business.
“What LPaaS does is enable shippers to get beyond those limitations and really develop a highly customized solution that meets their needs in an affordable and scalable way,” he said.
