OVERNITE OFFERS GUARANTEED PICKUP SERVICE    Overnite Transportation Co., the Richmond, Va.-based less-than-truckload carrier, has introduced guaranteed free pickup service nationwide. Customers must contact Overnite by midday and arrange to have their shipment ready for pickup by the end of the same business day.
   Under the new service, if Overnite fails to pick up and deliver the shipment as scheduled, it moves free of charge.
   “While other companies may offer guaranteed delivery once they have a customer's freight, Overnite's Guaranteed Pickup Service begins the moment a customer calls for a pickup,” said John Fain, senior vice president-sales and marketing of Overnite.
   Overnite has tested the service since February in the Northeast and in the Midwest since this summer.
   Overnite has also recently expanded service to Canada, with Advantage Canada, which offers coverage to nearly 100 percent of the Canadian population. In August, Overnite expanded its Advantage Overnite service, providing full coverage in 38 states east of the Rockies and more than 15,000 next- and second-day service lanes.
