ONE addition equals eight new South American destinations for JAXPORT

The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) said its customers now have access to a new container service to the West Coast of South America through Ocean Network Express (ONE).

ONE has added Rodman, Panama, as a port of call on its EC1 U.S. East Coast service, connecting JAXPORT’s TraPac Container Terminal at Dames Point in Jacksonville, Florida, to eight new destinations in South America.

The addition of a Rodman port call, which took effect at the beginning of October, provides connections from Jacksonville to Guayaquil, Ecuador; Paita and Callao, Peru; Buenaventura, Colombia; and Puerto Angamos, Lirquen, San Antonio and Coronel, Chile.

ONE’s EC1 service also offers direct container service from Jacksonville to Tokyo and Kobe, Japan; Busan, South Korea; Xiamen, Yantian and Hong Kong in China; and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, JAXPORT said.

“We continue to work with our ocean carrier partners to expand service offerings from Jacksonville,” said Lisa Wheldon, JAXPORT’s director of trade development and rail, in a statement. “This service further connects northeast Florida exporters, including the area’s robust forest products sector, to an important and growing segment of the global economy.”

ONE is not the only container carrier expanding service to South America. CMA CGM announced Thursday it is launching the BRAZEX Loop 2, a service to and from Brazil with connections to North America, Asia and Europe using Kingston, Jamaica, as a hub.

“This is a new milestone for CMA CGM in Latin America. BRAZEX 2 will be 100% operated by CMA CGM with five ships,” the announcement said.

BRAZEX Loop 2 includes:

  • Weekly direct service to Brazil from the U.S. East Coast, Gulf and Mexico.
  • Weekly service linking Vila Do Conde, Vitoria, Santos and Navegantes, Brazil, to the Caribbean, Asia, Europe and North America through the Kingston hub.
  • Weekly direct service from Vila Do Conde, Vitoria and South Brazil to Caucedo, Dominican Republic, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the Port of Spain in Trinidad.

The first northbound sailing from Santos is scheduled for Wednesday. The first southbound sailing from Kingston is slated for Nov. 10.
