MARITIME COALITION TO REVIEW INTERNET’s IMPACT ON MARITIME SHIPPING

MARITIME COALITION TO REVIEW INTERNETÆS IMPACT ON MARITIME SHIPPING    The Maritime Coalition on Education in British Columbia, Canada, will hold a one-day meeting at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver on March 28 to discuss the recent and future impacts of Internet technologies on maritime shipping.
   “In the marine world precise global positioning systems, electronic chart displays and automatic vessel tracking transponders are linking ships to the shore-side systems to create new opportunities to improve navigation safety as well as fleet and cargo management,” the coalition said. “This workshop is aimed at the leaders from business, industry and government who wish to be in the vanguard, rather than in the wake of these new developments.”
   The coalition’s members are the Association of Marine Underwriters of B.C., Transport Canada, Canadian Coast Guard, British Columbia Institute of Technology, Canadian Maritime Law Association, Chartered Institute of Transport, Chamber of Shipping of B.C., Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association, Company of Master Mariners, Council of Marine Carriers, Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Nautical Institute of British Columbia, Nautical Professional Education Society of B.C., International Financial Centre, and Vancouver Maritime Arbitrators Association.
