Through the eyes of a shipmate on a global container journey

While 75% of the freight in North America moves by truck and that is certainly the primary focus of FreightWaves, we find inspiration from our friends in the maritime industry. In fact, 90% of the world’s cargo actually moves by ship.

It has been argued  that the container box is one of the most significant inventions of the 20th century and helped to build the global economy and kept the world from going into WW3 at the peak of the Cold War (due to trade alliances). 

Recently, a video was posted of a guy that documented his journey through a time-lapse camera. He travelled from the Middle East to Hong Kong and if you have a few minutes to spare, you can go along with him. In the video, you will see thunderstorms, the Milky Way (0:32), Jupiter (0:53), the site of the ship docking in port (1:45), a rainstorm, a visit to the world’s largest container port in Singapore, and the arrival of the ship into the massive port of Hong Kong.
