DOT REPORTS 7.9-MILLION-TON ANNUAL TRAFFIC TO AND FROM U.S.    U.S. and non-U.S. airlines hauled 7.9 million freight tons to and from the United States during the 12-month period ended June 2000, a 4.9-percent increase from the previous 12 months, according to a report by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
   The report, “U.S. International Air Passenger and Freight Statistics,” said that air passenger and freight traffic between the U.S. and other countries showed strong growth during the 12 months ending June 2000.
   The report summarizes air traffic between the U.S. and all world regions, as well as the top 25 foreign nations in terms of passengers, seat capacity and freight. It also lists the top 40 U.S. international gateway airports, and the top 40 foreign gateway airports to the U.S.
   For freight traffic, the top five foreign destinations from the U.S. were Japan, the United Kingdom, Korea, Germany and Taiwan.
   The DOT said it will issue information from its Bureau of Transportation Statistics in the U.S. International Air Passenger and Freight Statistics each month. It may be obtained via the Internet at https://ostpxweb.dot.gov/aviation/international-series.
