American Airlines has exercised options from Boeing to purchase three
additional B777s for delivery in the first half of next year.
American has ordered a total of 37 B777s for delivery by 2002. American
started flying its first B777 in March and is operating 10 of the widebody
planes on transatlantic and transpacific routes.
American said that next year it will add B777 service on existing routes
between Los Angeles and London, New York and London, Miami and Buenos Aires, and New York
and Buenos Aires.
Cargo officials say B777s offer the most belly freight capacity of any
passenger airplane.
