Golden Peanut and Tree Nuts Inc. is permanently closing its processing and distribution facility in El Paso, Texas, according to a notice sent to state officials Friday.
The Alpharetta, Georgia-based peanut and tree nut processing company will lay off 86 employees and “will be closing entirely and permanently ceasing operations,” according to documents filed with the Texas Workforce Commission. The facility’s last day is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2021.
The El Paso facility processes pecans and has a shelling plant, two cold storage warehouses and a packaging/distribution warehouse. The facility operates 13 trucks and employs 23 drivers, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Golden Peanut and Tree Nuts, a subsidiary of Chicago-based Archer Daniels Midland Co., did not provide a reason for the El Paso facility’s closure.
The company is a global distributor of peanuts and tree nuts, with 17 processing/logistics/distribution facilities in the U.S., Argentina and South Africa.
