Be Kind

I recently watched a wonderful video put together by Mike Durst and Ernie Thornton of Artic Express, out of Ohio, on race relations and what is happening in our country today. Wow…such a timely, innovative chat that we could all learn from. Here is that video…

While watching the video, I realized that trucking is no different than any other segment of life. When difficult challenges are faced, the best thing to do is simply sit down and work through the process. To listen with the intent and gain an understanding of diverse perspectives and work towards progress.

Trucking is made up of wonderful people from all walks of life; the hardest working people anywhere. I know of no other industry that truly can bounce back from all kinds of adversity and land on its feet. The world needs to look at trucking and see what we have accomplished during these difficult times. The freight that keeps our shelves stocked and hospitals equipped does not know the background of the professional driver who delivered it.  We need to come together and advocate for every essential worker in our industry to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

The only way to really know someone is to walk in their shoes. I would encourage each of you to look around and continue to welcome all into our industry. My hope is that the current protests will effect positive change and we as a society we will learn to be kind to each other; accept people through genuine concern for their wellbeing, love, and compassion. Our world will be much better when we all practice those simple traits.
