JAX LNG approved for waterfront facility, bunkering operations

JAX LNG, a joint venture between Pivotal LNG and Northstar Midstream, received a Letter of Acceptance from the U.S. Coast Guard to begin operations by the end of 2017.    JAX LNG, LLC has received a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) for the operation of their waterfront liquified natural gas (LNG) facility in Jacksonville, Fla., and to conduct ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operations with TOTE Maritime’s Marlin Class ships and the LNG barge, Clean Jacksonville.
   With facility operations slated for the end of the year, JAX LNG will offer ship-to-ship LNG bunkering at its waterfront LNG facility in Jacksonville. The facility includes a marine dock with truck loading capabilities and 2 million gallons of storage capacity. Initial daily liquefaction capacity will be 120,000 gallons of LNG per day, according to JAX LNG.
   “The receipt of this second LOA demonstrates our commitment to our customers, the value of inclusive port stakeholder relationships and exhibits confidence in our rigorous operational risk analysis methodology,” said Tim Hermann, president of Pivotal LNG.
   JAX LNG, LLC is a joint venture between Pivotal LNG and Northstar Midstream and is operated by Pivotal LNG. In August 2015, JAX LNG and its partner TOTE Maritime received their first LOA from the USCG establishing an industry first landside LNG bunkering facility in the Port of Jacksonville. Construction on the site began early in 2016, with the joint venture securing Crowley as a customer in addition to TOTE.
   JAX LNG has transported LNG fuel by barge to TOTE’s Marlin class ships, proving its ability to safely conduct LNG bunkering operations while TOTE Maritime simultaneously loads and off-loads cargo at the port, said the company. Additional ship-to-ship bunkering will begin in early 2018.
