LLOYD TRIESTINO TAKES OVER FORMER EVERGREEN ASIA/EUROPE LINK
Lloyd Triestino, the Italian shipping line owned by the Evergreen
group, is taking over and revising an Asia/Mediterranean/northern Europe container service
previously operated jointly by the two companies.
The amended, 10-ship Lloyd Triestino service will replace the former
9-vessel "AME" loop of Lloyd Triestino and Evergreen.
With vessels of 2,700-TEU to 3,000-TEU capacity, it will provide a
direct service between European ports and the Chinese ports of Shanghai, Qingdao and
Ningbo. Lloyd Triestino secured the right to have direct calls in China from the ministry
of communications at the end of May.
The first Lloyd Triestino vessel to call China is scheduled to commence
loading in early Ausgust.
Lloyd Triestino has not disclosed the full rotation of the service.
A spokesman for Evergreen Line confirmed that it will have slots on the
service operated by Lloyd Triestino.
The changes to its Asia/Europe service and the commencement of direct
calls at Yantian on the new TPS transpacific loop of Evergreen mean that the Taiwanese
shipping group will now have direct calls in China within both its Pacific and Asia-Europe
operations, for the first time.
